trivago: Compare hotel prices 6.6.0

Angst removed

I always thought about a booking a hotel room to be the most strenuous part of planning a trip. Searching around the net for hotels, checking their position relative to my points of interest, then searching for booking offers was too much to consider without being left with a nagging feeling that I may have just missed a better deal.

My worrying days were over when I stumbled upon this helpful app. Trivago works exactly like a good friend that just happens to know the best deals around. Trivago doesn't talk (...yet) but through a streamlined interface and friendly colours managed to wash away my reservations, and make me feel that booking a hotel room is as easy a choice as buying the plot you land on in Monopoly.

Trivago

Trivago is essentially a very updated list of accommodation offers with a very good filtering system. After selecting a town or city you will be presented with a list of lodging places with the best deal you can find for them and an average review score for each. From there you can apply the two obvious filters which are checking dates and room type.

There's more in the detailed filters panel, where you can set things ranging from price to whether your hotel room should contain hypoallergenic bed sheets. One of the best tools though is the sorting by distance, which is set to town center by default, but can be changed to any map location. This helps a lot, as you might agree.

Trivago

You can also check the online map with little blurbs for the hotels in question. Trivago uses an emoticon system that interprets the overall ratings score from different websites into square face that ranges from lush smiling green to disappointment red.

Features

  • Automatically selects the best deal
  • Review score aggregation
  • Sorting by distance to POI
  • Lodging details
  • Detailed sorting options

Pros

  • It makes booking hotels a breeze

Cons

  • Stars and review score filter buttons are a bit fiddly to use

Conclusion

Trivago looks and feels like a labor of love. My feeling was so strong about it that I did a quick research about the company and found out that they use a very progressive business model.
